Who is 6ix9ine?

Daniel Hernandez, also popularly known as Tekashi 6ix9ine, is a rapper, singer and songwriter from America, who got massive fame and notice because of his public persona and colored hair. He rose to fame in 2017, following the release of his debut single “Gummo,” a great hit that peaked at number twelve on the US Billboard Hot 100. His aggressive style of rapping, flashy look, and the use of social media have been among the biggest contributors to his overhyped controversy and commercial acclaim.

6ix9ine’s name is also linked to legal problems that have drawn him into Nine Trey Gangsters, a criminal faction of the Bloods street gang. Until 2019, he emerged as one of the most prominent stories of the year, when he cut a flamboyant partnership with federal authorities against the Nine Trey Gangsters. His testimony led to the conviction of several gang members, including the gang’s leader. Accordingly, he was given a 24-month jail time but had served 13 months while waiting for trial, so he was released early in April 2020 because of concerns about his health and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite being plagued by legal woes and having a controversial career, 6ix9ine, yet, continues to drop music that garners both high popularity and sharp criticism. His career has been characterized by feuding with other artists and making inflammatory public statements, all made possible by a remarkably high media profile.

Is 6ix9ine Gay?

On this, there was a video that 6ix9ine did refer to himself as “gay,” but it was in a context whereby it was evident he meant it, or else he was just messing around. Such speculation had been rekindled in 2021 after a noted exchange with rapper Lil Nas X as a rejoinder to a comment from 6ix9ine over an article about China’s COVID-19 testing policies, where he indirectly involved Lil Nas X. The incident has added another layer to the ongoing discussion about his personal life, without giving any clear answers.

Amid all these, a video also emerged where 6ix9ine referred to himself as gay, although from the context, one was able to tell that he might have been jesting. And this rumor had come back to the fore in 2021 after a high-profile exchange with rapper Lil Nas X, in which 6ix9ine was quoted on a news article about the COVID-19 testing policy of China, involuntarily involving Lil Nas X in that post of his, which further added fuel to the already burning debate.

Commenting on the discussion, 6ix9ine suggested that because Lil Nas X is openly gay, he must have been “on Topic X in all caps”. In a quick rejoinder, Lil Nas X went to his socials with screenshots purporting to show 6ix9ine reaching out to him over Instagram Directs. Nonetheless, 6ix9ine went on to deny and allegedly claim that the screengrab was not actually real, since he is found to be saying, “I’ll be in your city shortly, what’s your plan, haha?”

These are exactly the kind of incidents that lead his fans to believe 6ix9ine was into Lil Nas X and indulged in a romantic relationship with him. To fuel such rumor, 6ix9ine did post a picture of himself kissing the Mexican artist Eduin Caz on the cheek. The truth is that the two artists had just featured each other in the track “Y ahora” together. In the picture, 6ix9ine lays a kiss on the cheek of Caz, and from the smiles, they clearly have more than a working relationship.

Speculations on the nature of their relationship had, however, been ignited after women were evident in the music video for his collaboration with 6ix9ine, dancing with the pair. This went on to become speculations, though some fans suggest he may have been romantically linked to Caz. At around the same time, a very raunchy gay content video apparently featuring 6ix9ine also made its way onto the internet. After much attention, however, it was eventually dissipated that the person in the video was actually not 6ix9ine but only looked very similar to him.

6ix9ine, for his part, has not come out to clearly say anything about his sexual orientation. But it would appear the rapper’s silence on it has caused the speculation and rumor mills around his personal life to turn dogged and not show any signs of stopping anytime soon.
